Natural
Step Founder Speaks at Conference on Chlorine
Brussels,
26 November 2002 - Karl-Henrik Robčrt, Swedish founder and chairman
of the international organisation The Natural Step, has agreed
to speak at a conference on sustainability and the chlorine industry
in Brussels on February 24-25, 2003.
The Natural Step (TNS) was founded in 1989 by Dr Robčrt, one
of Sweden's foremost cancer scientists. Today major Swedish companies
such as IKEA, Electrolux and McDonalds Sweden have drawn on the
TNS science-based approach to help companies, organisations and
communities move towards sustainability.
The conference Lightening chlorine's footprint...steps to sustainability
is organised by Euro Chlor, which represents European chlor-alkali
producers. Other speakers include Catherine Day (Director-General
of the EU Environment DG), Hubertus Schmoldt (President of the European
Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation) and Aloďs Michielsen
(chairman of the Executive Committee of Solvay).
A progress report on how the European chlor-alkali industry is establishing
measurable sustainability indicators will also be given by Philippe
Goebel, Executive Vice-President of Atofina. He is also a member
of the governing body of the World Chlorine Council.
Information on the conference can be found at http://www.eurochlor.org.
